Program Overview
This program was written to help you keep track of and analyze your
investments. It was originally written to handle stocks and bonds, but has
been expanded to handle most types of investments including coins,
collectibles, and any item you buy and then sell at a later date, hopefully to
make a profit.
Each time you buy & sell an investment, you will be able to quickly & easily
store the details of the transaction. This will provide a permanent record of
the details of each transaction for future use. You will be able to edit &
delete individual records, allowing you to keep your data file or files
current. You can easily sell part of an investment, update a current
investment as a result of a stock split, or create a new record each time a
dividend is paid as additional shares of your investment.
Using the current pricing module, you will be able to evaluate your current
investments based on their current pricing or value, & obtain a year to date
performance evaluation, based on current pricing and trades completed in the
current year.
You will be able to use as many different data files as desired, as specified
from the Utility menu. The data file last used, will be automatically loaded
from the menu the next time you start the program.
When you start the program, it will remind you of the last date the program was
executed, the active data file, and the number of records in that data file.
It will also keep track of how long you have been in the program & provide that
information to you when you exit.
The program will accommodate "Short Sells" as well as traditional investments.
It will calculate & display various factors based on buy/sell prices,
fees/commissions paid, date bought/sold, & number of shares including:
Total cost to purchase an investment
Total received from sale of an investment
Day of the week that a transaction occurred
Number of days held to date, while still in your portfolio
Number of days investment held when a trade is complete
Profit or loss percentage, based on the investment & on the time held
Allow you to assign a record type to each of your investments
The Analysis portion of the program will display various summaries for all
trades occurring in the year you choose. One option will summarize a listing
of all trades reportable to the IRS in the chosen year. This is very useful
at tax time.
The Graph portion of the program will display several graphs displayed by
record number to aid in visualizing your trading performance over time.
Menu Interface: The selections from the menu are made by pressing the indicated
key. You can use upper or lower case. For example:
"Press Your Choice ( A, L, D, C, or M )"
Make your selection by pressing "A" or "a". No return is needed, as the
selection is automatic.
The Menu will indicate the appropriate choice by parentheses. For example
"Cum-(S)ummary Graph" would be selected by pressing "S" or "s".
In addition to the direct selection from the menus, The "ESC" key will return
you to the parent menu. When at the Main menu, the "ESC" key will exit the
program.
If your system does not have color capability, or if you prefer to display all
text in white, you will want to select the LCD / Monochrome selection from the
Utility menu, Graphic mode select option. This will modify the highlight used
in the pop-up windows, so that you will be able to determine which item is
being highlighted.
To Get Started Quickly
1: Run the Install program, or simply use DOS to create a directory and copy
all files to that directory.
NOTE: If the install disk is 5 1/4" 360K format, the file WALLST.EXE is
compressed and will uncompress automatically the first time you execute
this file. If this occurs answer Yes to the question do you want to
overwrite this file.
2: Change directories to the directory created in step 1 above and type in
"WALLST".
3: If you wish to explore the capabilities, use the SAMPLE.DAT Data file or
HOTSTOCKS.DAT and experiment with as many menu choices as desired. When you
are ready to enter your own investment data, proceed to item #4.
4: From the Main menu, select "U" to activate the Utility menu.
5: From the Utility Menu, select "F" and then "A" to select a new data file.
6: Enter up to 8 characters to name your data file, and press return, then "Y",
and then any key to activate your new data file.
7: Press "M" and then "M" again to return to the main menu.
8: Press "A" and begin adding Records to your file. These records contain the
details of each of your investments!
Good Luck !
Menu Descriptions
..... MAIN MENU .....
DISPLAY & ANALYZE / DATA ON FILE: Branch to the Investment Display Menu.
ADD NEW DATA TO ACTIVE FILE (BUY): Used primarily to add a new investment to
the active file. The input fields are as listed and described below: An "I"
indicates an input, "W" Pop up window, "Q" Question, & "R", a system Response.
I Item Description: The name of the investment (up to 20 characters).
You may want to use your own naming system for use as a quick search as
described in the Video Print Menu. For example, noting all investments
in your IRA with these letters somewhere in the name will later allow you
to display all IRA investments by simply searching on IRA as described
below.
W Record Type: Select from the choices listed in the pop-up window by
using the Up / Down arrows or the Home / End Key. The record type will
be stored along with the name of the investment. This will be useful to
later display a selected group of your investments. The last selection
in the list will allow you to enter your own investment type.
I Number of Shares: The number of shares purchased. For investment
types such as coins, or real estate, the number of shares will be 1.
Maximum of 500,000 shares in integer format. Optional format maximums
are 999999.9; 99999.99; 9999.999 if shares entered require a non integer
format.
Q Short Sell (Y/N): A short sell occurs when an investment is sold
first, & then later bought back at, hopefully, a lower price. Answer "N"
or simply press return to enter traditional "Buy now - Sell Later"
investments. If you enter "Y", you will be asked to enter the
appropriate Sell data next.
I Year of Purchase: The year the investment was purchased. Enter the
last two digits of the year. If you press return, this value will
default to the current year.
I Month of Purchase: The Month the investment was purchased. If you
enter an incorrect value or press return, this value will default to the
current month.
I Day of Purchase: The Day the investment was purchased. If you enter
an incorrect value or press return, this value will default to the
current day.
R Day of the Week: The system will reply with the Day of the Week that
this purchase took place.
I Price Per Share: The price paid per share. You may enter this value
directly as a fraction and the system will calculate the decimal
equivalent. For example, entering "3 1/4" or "3.25" will have the same
result.
I Commission to Buy: The total commission paid when the investment was
Purchased. Simply press return to enter "0" for this value.
I Other Fees & Taxes: Any other fees or taxes paid when the investment
was purchased. These two values will be added and stored as the total
one-time costs paid when the investment was purchased.
R Total Cost to Buy: The system will then reply with the total cost of
purchase based on Number of Shares; Price paid per share; &
Commission/Fees paid.
Q Has this been Sold: If you answer "Y", you will then be able to
input the sell data, at this time. This would be the case if you are
entering past investment history. Normally, you will answer "N" at this
time and store the purchase data you just entered.
IF YOU ANSWER N to the "Has this Investment been Sold?" question, you will be
asked if this information is correct. If you answer:
"Y": The data will be stored and you will be returned to the main menu.
"N": The data will be stored and the edit routine will be displayed to allow
you to correct the incorrect data.
"A": The addition of the data will be aborted and you will be returned to the
main menu.
IF YOU ANSWER Y to the "Has this Investment been Sold?" question, the program
will then prompt you to enter the sell data as described below:
I Year of Sale: The year the investment was sold. If you press return,
this will default to current year.
I Month of Sale: The month the investment was sold. If you press
return or enter an incorrect value, this will default to the current
month.
I Day of Sale: The day the investment was sold. If you press return or
enter an incorrect value, this will default to current day.
R Day of the Week: The system will reply with the Day of the Week that
this sale took place.
I Price Per Share: The price received per share when the investment was
sold. You may enter this value directly or as a fraction as described
above.
I Commission to Sell: The total commission paid when the investment
sold. Simply press return to enter "0" for this value.
I Other Fees & Taxes: Any other fees or taxes paid when the investment
was sold. These two values will be added and stored as the total
one-time costs paid when the investment was sold.
R Total Received: The system will then reply with the total amount
received when sold, based on Number of Shares; Price per Share received
when sold; & Commission/Fees paid.
R Total Loss or Gain: The system will then calculate the total amount of
profit or loss based on the above data
You will then be asked "Is this information Correct?". If you answer:
"Y" The data will be stored and you will be returned to the main menu.
"N" The data will be stored and the edit routine will be displayed to allow
you to correct the incorrect data.
"A" The addition of the data will be aborted and you will be returned to the
main menu.
EDIT/UPDATE EXISTING FILE (SELL): This is usually used to enter the
corresponding sell data of an investment that had been previously purchased,
however from this selection, you will be able to edit any information
contained in an investment record.
After pressing "E" to select the edit routine, you will be asked to select the
edit you want to edit. You may do this by selecting the investment record by
number; or by pressing return, you will be able to select from a summary
listing, temporally displayed in a pop-up window. Once the window is
displayed, you simply highlight the record of choice using the UP / DOWN arrow
keys, PAGE UP, PAGE DOWN, HOME, or END keys, & then press return to select the
record of your choice.
Once a record is selected, the investment record will be displayed to allow you
to confirm that this is the record you wish to edit. You may:
Press "E" to edit the displayed record.
Press "O" to enter the other edit option menu. This will provide the options
to;
1) Press "C" - Place an identical copy of the displayed record at the end
of the file, ready to edit.
2) Press "S" - Edit the record to record a split. You will then be asked
to enter the investment split ratio. You can enter '0' to abort. Once
a valid split ratio has been entered, you will be prompted with the new
effective price and number of shares. If this is not correct press ESC,
otherwise press any key to record the split.
3) Press "P" - Execute a Partial Sale. This will create a new record for
the amount still held and allow you to easily record the partial sale.
This will divide the commissions and fees proportionally based on the
volume of shares sold and still held.
4) Press "V" - Create a new record for a dividend reinvestment. This
creates a new record at the end of the file and places you in the edit
mode ready to record the reinvestment. You then record the quantity of
Shares. The buy price is set to zero since the dividend cost was zero.
Press "D" to delete this record. If you select "D", you will be asked to
confirm the deletion of this record by entering a "Y".
Press "ESC" to return to the main menu.
Press the UP/DOWN arrow keys to search through the file, one record at a time.
As you scroll through the file, you will note the record number is displayed
is as noted at the top of the screen.
Press the PAGE UP/PAGE DOWN keys to quickly scan through the file. Once you
get close to the record of interest, you can switch to the UP / DOWN arrow
keys.
During the edit process a small arrow will appear at the left of the item
currently available for editing. This will begin with the record type as
previously described. In each case, pressing "Y" (Yes) this item is correct,
the next item available for editing will be displayed. If you press "N" (No)
this item is not correct, you will be able to modify the item selected. If at
any time you select "A" (Abort), any modifications will be erased and you will
able to select a different record to edit, or by pressing "ESC" return to the
main menu.
If you wish to modify or confirm that the buy or sell status is "Not Bought"
or "Not Sold", simply enter "-1" when asked if the year is correct. Once you

Pricing Symbol or Record Type. Entering "1980" or "80", will return all
records bought or sold in 1980 or with those characters in the Investment name,
Current pricing Symbol, or Record Type. You can also enter "COMPLETE" to view
only those records that have been both bought and sold. This is useful for
displaying summary information for all completed investments.
The listing will be displayed to your screen in summary format. The fields
displayed will be as noted below:
Record Type ( 4 character abbreviation )
Record Number
Investment Name
Number of Shares
Buy Date ( Purchase Date or "Not Bght" If not Bought, as in the case of
a short sale )

the entire file, unless the entire file was selected).
This summary will include:
The Total Amount Invested: This includes the investments that have
already been sold.
The Total Amount Received: Total amount received from the investments
that have been sold.
Number Current Investments: The number of investments still being held

DISPLAY GROUP OF INVESTMENTS: This works much the same as the Index option,
except each record is displayed in detail format. The up/down arrow keys can
be used to select the next, & prior records accordingly. Only those matching
the select criteria will be displayed.
If you choose to display all records, by simply pressing return, you will be
asked to enter a starting record number. This capability was added for large
data files. If you press return when asked for the starting record number, the
display will begin at the first investment. If you enter a number larger than
the number of records on file, the display will begin at the last record
number.
The number of days held to date will be displayed if the record is still in
your portfolio. This is based on your Computer System Date as displayed. The
record number is displayed at the top of the screen during this search. Press
"ESC" at any time to abort the data display.

DISPLAY INVESTMENT MAIN MENU: Branch to the Investment Display Menu.
MAIN MENU WALL $TREET TBL: Branch to the Main Menu.
..... W$TBL GRAPH CHOICE MENU .....

Similar to the video print option, you will be able to select:
"A" or "RETURN" for all investment records on file.
"C" for all Currently held investments based on current prices as stored in the
current pricing module.
Search by Current Pricing Symbol, Investment Name, Record Type, or Buy or Sell
year. The search string will function as described earlier.
"ESC" to return to the menu.
When entering a "C" for currently held investments, all records currently being

set in the current pricing module. If you have an EGA/VGA color system,
potential losses will be displayed below the line in red, & profit will be
displayed above the line in green.
% PROFIT OR LOSS GRAPH: Display percent profit or loss by record number. The
available options are the same as described above, with a similar graph layout.
The percent profit is based on the amount invested and amount received when
sold.
CURRENT INVESTMENTS: Display graphically the amount invested of the currently
held investments, by record number. If your current holdings include any
"short sells", these will be displayed in magenta on a color display (EGA/VGA).
Use the "C" option from the Profit / Loss Graph selection to examine the
current P/L status of the currently held investments. All Current Investments
will be displayed.
FEES - PERCENT PAID: This will display the percentage of the total investment
that was paid as commission & fees, by record number. All records matching the
search criteria, will be displayed, including those currently being held. The
percent paid at investment purchase will be above the line. The percent paid
at the sale of each investment will be below the line. Each record will
generate two bars, except for those records currently being held. This is
useful to gain a graphical representation of the % commission and fees, being
paid over multiple records, or an extended period of time.
CUM - SUMMARY GRAPH: Display a CUM-SUM chart for profit or loss by record
number. From left to right, each bar is the sum of the prior displayed bar.
This could be used to determine the total amount of profit or loss over
numerous records, or over an extended period of time. As noted previously, you
can select all or a subset of your investments.
GRAPH MODE SELECT: Branch to the Graphic Mode Select Menu.
MAIN MENU WALL $TREET TBL: Branch to the Main Menu.
General Graph Notes:
1: Although the limit to the number of records that can be maintained on
W$TBL is 500, the maximum number of records that can be graphed at a
single time is 300. If you attempt to exceed this limit, a warning will
be printed & the first 300 items selected will be displayed. In the case
of the Fees Paid graph, 300 bars can be generated for 150 records.
2: The vertical scale is set automatically to simplify the graphing
process. A multiplying factor is displayed at the top of the graph. For
example, if the top of the vertical axis displayed 125 x 10^2, this would
mean that a full scale vertical bar would represent $12,500.
3: The horizontal axis will be labeled with the record number & space
permitting, with the name of the investment. The name will be truncated
to include the first several characters as space permits. When more than
8 records are displayed, only the record number will be displayed. When
more than 17 records are displayed, a skip sequence will be used to label
the records at regular intervals. When large number of records are
printed, the number of records included in the graph will be displayed at
the upper left corner of the graph screen
..... GRAPH MODE SELECT MENU .....
AUTOMATIC MODE DETECTION: An attempt will be made to determine the graphic
capability of your system. Once you select this option the detected Graphic
capability will be selected and displayed at the bottom of the screen for a
short period of time. In each case, a warning will be presented if you attempt
to select a graphic mode that appears not to be supported by your hardware.
You will be given opportunity to override this selection. If a lockup should
occur, you can reset the graphic mode by restoring the WALLSTD.CTL file from
your registration disk.
VGA COLOR (640 x 480): Set the Graphic Mode to VGA Color. Graphs will be
displayed in color in a 640x480 pixel resolution mode.

detail format. You will be asked the record number you want to print. As
described earlier, you can select from a summary listing by just pressing
return and then using the UP/DOWN, PAGE UP/PAGE DOWN, HOME/END keys. This
printout will resemble the detail record view option from the main menu.
PRINT: GROUP - DATA RECORDS: Print a hard copy of a group of data records in
detail format. The printout of each record will closely resemble the detail
record view option from the main menu. The search option will function as
described above.
ANALYSIS MENU YEAR/CURRENT: Branch to the Analysis Print Menu.
MAIN MENU WALL $TREET TBL: Branch to the Main Menu.
Print Menu Note: You must have a printer connected to use these options. If
the printer is not "on-line" you will be prompted to place the printer on line
before the menu selections may be made. If you do not correct this after a
reasonable length of time, the program will automatically re-load the main
menu.
CAUTION: In some cases, we are not be able to tell if your printer is on. If
the program locks up after selecting a print selection, turn on the printer &
place the printer on line. If this does not correct the problem, you may be
forced to reboot, or re-start your system.

MAIN MENU WALL $TREET TBL: Branch to the Main Menu.
..... CURRENT INVESTMENT DATA MENU .....
UPDATE CURRENT INVESTMENT DATA: Once a symbol has been assigned to each
current investment, (You must do this first - See Define Symbol Option
described below) you will be able to input current investment pricing, earnings
per share, dividend paid per share, & enter a comment, if desired, as shown in
the sample data file.
You are first asked if you want to scan through all investments and have the
option of updating each set of current pricing information, or if you want to
select individual symbols one at a time for possible update. If you press "A"
for all symbols, the program will display each symbol. If you press "S", all
currently defined symbols will be displayed in a pop-up window. You can then
select the desired symbol to update by using the arrow keys as described above.
Once the symbol of choice is displayed the screen is noted as follows;
The date of the last update is displayed at the bottom of the screen.
The symbol is noted at the top with a reference note on the number of
symbols on file. The number of current investments that are assigned to
this symbol is noted. You may choose to maintain a current pricing file
on an item that you currently do not hold but are considering purchasing.
Current Price: The last stored current price is displayed. If you wish
to change this price, you simply press "N", (No this is not correct) and
make the necessary modifications. Simply press "Y" if this price is
correct.
Reference High Price: This is updated automatically as noted above, but
if you wish to override this value, you may do so. Once this value is
entered, the percent of the current price is noted:
Reference Low Price: Functions as described Above
Earnings Per Share: Entering earnings per share if desired. The program
will automatically calculate the PE ratio as noted below:
PE = Current Price / Earnings per Share.
Dividends Per Share: Entering the dividends paid annually per share. The
program will automatically calculate the % dividend as noted below:
% Dividend = Dividend per Share / Current Price * 100.
The current pricing information can be used to evaluate your current
investments. If you simply want to keep track of the current prices, you
may choose not to update the Earnings & Dividend fields. Once the
current price has been input, or verified correct, pressing the "ESC" key
will advance to the next symbol. Press "A" to abort the Current pricing
update routine at any time. If a current symbol is no longer desired in
the symbol database, pressing "D" will delete this symbol.
DEFINE/ASSIGN INVESTMENT SYMBOLS: Define the symbols you will use to
identify each of the investments you wish to track. You will have to do
this prior to assigning prices as described above. Each time a new
security is added to your current holdings in your portfolio, you will
need to assign a symbol to that item.
The routine will begin by sequentially displaying each of your current
investments. You are asked to verify or, if necessary, assign a symbol
to each one. The symbol can be selected from an existing list, which can
be displayed in a pop-up window, or added if necessary. This feature
prevents you from having to remember the symbol or abbreviation used
previously. Once the pop-up window is displayed, you can select from an
existing symbol, by using the up & down arrow keys as described earlier.
If the currently assigned symbol is correct, you simply press "Y" to
display the next current investment. It there is no symbol assigned or
is not correct, you press "N". A list of current symbols will be
displayed that you can choose from. If you wish to add a new symbol to
the list, you simply press "ESC" and you will able to add the new symbol.
Once the new symbol has been added, it will be included in the symbol
list, in alphabetical order.
SUMMARY SYMBOL AND PRICE LISTING: This will display to the screen, a summary
of the symbol, initial investment price, current price, & associated data
currently assigned to each of your current investments. The potential profit
or loss is displayed based on the current price, & initial investment. One
should note that any commission or fees that may be required to sell the
investment are not included in this calculation. A summary of the number of
current investments, number of symbols, & total amount currently invested is
summarized at the bottom of the screen. Trades completed in the current year
are also included in this display to provide a summary for the current year.
PRINT CURRENT PRICING DATA MENU: Branch to the Current Pricing Report Menu.
INITIALIZE -- INVESTMENT SYMBOLS: This will initialize the symbol database.
All current pricing information will be lost from the symbol file, however, the
last price & active symbol will still be stored in the each data file. You can
easily recreate the active symbol list for investments currently held by the
simple process outlined below:
1: Initialize the Symbol Data Base
2: Select the Define Symbol option & press return to accept the current
symbols still stored on the Main Database.
3: Select the Update Current Pricing option, & Enter the current prices,
and associated data for each symbol as appropriate.
NOTE: This module was written to be able to track numerous portfolios,
possibly with some of the same investments, as well as numerous
investments of the same company in the same portfolio. For this reason,
the first time you use this module, & for any new investments not
currently in your symbol database, you are required to establish a symbol
or abbreviation, for each investment. It is intended that the standard
"Ticker Symbol" be used, but any symbol (1 to 6 characters ) will work,
as long as you are consistent.

SYSTEM STATUS/ANALYSIS: Display several aspects of your current system
configuration. This is useful for your information, but also as a debug /
problem solving tool in the unlikely event that you should experience a system
problem while using W$TBL. The display will include:
1: System environment variables currently set on your system. The
display will include the active "PATH" & DOS environment variables.
2: Current DOS Operation System Version, & DOS Memory up to 640K.
3: Current Active Disk Drive & Available Space on Active Drive.
4: Number of Records that can be stored on the current drive, based on
the Available Space, and the W$TBL Record Length. The Active Data File,
and number of records in that file.
5: Current Graphics Capability, active number of columns, & Bios Mode
6: Number of detected Parallel, Serial, & Game ports.
7: Current System Time & Date.
8: Your Computer Processor and Clock Speed.
GRAPHIC MODE SELECTION: Branch to the Graphic / Color Menu.
CALENDAR DISPLAY: This option will generate a calendar for any month & year
from 1899 to the year 2099. Once the desired month is displayed, you can
display the next or prior month, by pressing "N" or "P" accordingly. You can
also select a new month by pressing "C" to change the active date. This is
useful in determining the exact date a trade took place & also as a utility for
other applications. You can quickly select the current year & month, by simply
pressing return, in response to the year & month inquires. Press "ESC" to
return to the Main Utility Menu.
PRINTER CONTROL CODES: This option will allow you to choose appropriate
printer control codes for Dot Matrix Printers, HP Laser Jet II, or IBM
Proprinter type printers. You will also be able to modify these default
printer control codes. One of these three sets of printer control codes should
work for your printer, with the exception of POSTSCRIPT. Currently W$TBL does
not support postscript only printers.
You can choose a different set of control codes by pressing the "S" key. This
will scroll through the list of printers that are supported directly by W$TBL.
You can choose to modify any or all of these control code configurations by
selecting the item to modify and the choosing "A" for an ASC control code, or
"E" to precede your control codes by the universal escape control character
"ESC" (ASC 27). You may press "Q" if you choose not to modify the control
code.
Once you have made the desired control code changes, you will be able to test
this configuration on your printer by selecting "T as instructed.
Caution: Consult your printer control manual before attempting to modify any
of these control codes. You can reset these codes to the default values listed
above by pressing "R" from this menu, as noted in the on screen instructions.
You can also reset these codes by deleting PRINTERS.CTL, and allow W$TBL to
re-create it.
UPDATE SYSTEM DATE: The Current system date is displayed. and can easily be
changed from this selection. This value is used throughout W$TBL.
MAIN MENU WALL $TREET TBL: Branch to the Main Menu.
..... FILE MANAGEMENT MENU .....
SORT ACTIVE DATA FILE: You have the option of sorting your active data file
by Investment Date, Investment Name and Type, or Investment Type and Name.
After selecting the sort order of your choice W$TBL will sort your active data
file as requested. This may take anywhere from a few seconds to hours
depending on the number of records, the degree of disorder and your computer
speed. It will obviously take considerably longer if running W$TBL from a
floppy disk. The sort routine will keep you informed of its actions as it
proceeds to sort your data file.
We recommend that you sort your file by date, since this will correspond to the
natural order as time progresses and additional investment data is entered.
It may be helpful for analysis purposes to view graphs, such as the CUM-SUM
graph bases on another sort criteria.
The date sort will allow you to enter your investments in random order and
allow W$TBL to sort them after your initial load is complete. Normally you
will only need to do this after you store your initial investments. You can
check the order of your investments at any time from this menu. If your
investments are in the proper order this will only take a few seconds.
ACTIVE W$TBL DATA FILE: Modify the data file that is currently active, or
create a new data file. You may find it useful to keep separate data files for
different investment types, or perhaps a new file each year. The data file is
limited to 500 investment records. Currently the W$TBL data file must exist
on the same drive as the W$TBL Software.
You can enter the file name or select from the existing files by simply
pressing return to invoke the pop-up window with all available .DAT files in
the current drive/directory. Valid characters are limited to A-Z & 0-9, and
8 characters in length. The DOS suffix of ".Dat" will be added to the end of
the file name. Once you select an active data file and confirm your choice,
W$TBL will verify the data file, inform you of the last date this file was
accessed and inform you of the number of active records in the selected file.
The file format was changed after version 5.2 to permit partial share data to
be stored. The program will automatically convert to the new file format if
your data file was created with version 5.0, 5.1 or 5.2. The screen will
notify you of this conversion when it occurs. You will not be able to use data
files created with a version 5.3 or above with prior versions of W$TBL.
LIST ALL W$TBL FILES: This option will display a listing of all files in your
current directory. If you maintain your W$TBL software in a directory of it's
own, all files should fit on one screen. If you have a large number of data
files, the display will pause at the end of each screen.
DELETE W$TBL DATA FILE: This option will allow you to delete a ".DAT" (Data)
file. A similar input screen will be available as described above. You will
be notified if the deletion was successful.
COPY W$TBL DATA FILE: This option will allow you to copy an existing ".DAT"
(Data) file. This feature is useful if you decide to divide an existing file
into smaller separate files. This can be done by copying the data file & then
deleting the desired, records from the files using the main menu, edit option.
MAIN UTILITY MENU: Branch to the Main Utility Menu.
..... GRAPHIC / COLOR MENU .....
COLOR WITHOUT GRAPHIC BORDERS: EGA Graphic Borders will be ignored, menu items
will be displayed in full color, with Blue ASCII Borders.
EGA COLOR WITH GRAPHIC BORDERS: EGA screen graphics will be displayed in full
color with EGA Graphic Borders displayed during the menu displays. If your
system does not support EGA or VGA, do not select this option.
Note: The Borders will only display in the menu selections. You may
choose to select COLOR WITHOUT GRAPHIC BORDERS, even if you have EGA/VGA
capability, since these borders will slow the program slightly.
LCD OR MONOCHROME NO BORDERS: EGA Graphic Borders will be ignored, & all
colors will be set to high intensity white. ASCII borders will be displayed.
The color scheme will be modified to allow the highlight selection to be
displayed on an LCD screen.
ALTER DEFAULT COLOR CHOICES: The colors can only be changed if you have
selected "C" or "E", as described above. The current color choices are
displayed, along with the valid 15 system colors. These are displayed for your
choice, & are numbered 1 through 15. The standard color assignments are as
noted below:
Red will be used to indicate a loss.
Green to indicate a profit.
Magenta to indicate a short Sell.
White to indicate an investment still held.
Note: The default setup will be color, no graphics. This does not
effect the generation of Graphs. The graphic choices for the Graph Menu
are available separately.

Operating Notes & Hints
NOTE #1: If you have entered a record as being sold & later determine
that it is not sold, you may correct this by entering "-1" in the year
field, to change the sold status. For example, if you entered a record
as being sold, & wish to modify it to be unsold; when asked if the year
data is correct, just enter "N" for not correct & "-1" for the year.
NOTE #2: If you make an error & wish to abort the current screen, press
the "ESC" key and the system will return you to the parent menu. When
viewing a menu, the "ESC" key will return you to the parent menu, or to
the exit screen if currently at the parent menu.
NOTE #3: If you specify a graphic mode & your system locks up, you can
reset to the standard color settings, with no graphics by restoring the
file "WALLSTD.CTL" from your registration disk.
NOTE #4: If you modify the printer control codes, & do not achieve the
desired results, you can reset these codes from the utility menu. You
can also delete the PRINTERS.CTL file before starting W$TBL, which will
also reset these codes.
NOTE #5: The "WALLSTD.CTL" file now contains your registration
information. If this file is deleted, you will need to restore it from
your registration disk, in order to restore full program functionality.
NOTE #6: The Data file structure has changed from earlier versions of the
program. File structures created with W$TBL prior to version 5.0 are not
supported. The program will automatically convert 5.0, 5.1 or 5.2
version data files to the current format used in versions 5.3 and later.
NOTE #7: Although W$TBL can be successfully run from a floppy disk drive,
a hard drive is recommended. This will greatly increase the speed of the
program & increase the number of records that can be displayed. If you
choose to run W$TBL from a floppy drive, & you find that you need more
storage space, you can delete the .DAT files, WALLST.DOC & READ.ME files.
This will increase the number of records that can be stored on the disk.
The number of records that will fit on the disk at any time, can be read
directly from the utility menu - System display option.
NOTE #8: The Letter "K" is used to indicate very large values in
thousands. For example to indicate 456,000 the display would show 456K.
NOTE #9: Although W$TBL is not a Microsoft windows application, you can
run W$TBL from MS windows. If you run windows 3.0, or later, in the
enhanced mode, you can choose to run W$TBL, full screen or in a window.
The WSTBL.ICO file is a full color ICON (Windows 3.0 compatible) which
can be selected by selecting File Properties; Change ICON; and entering
the Path and desired Icon File. For example "C:\WALLST\WSTBL.ICO".
